Diane Pooley, licensee of the the Queen’s Head in Burnham received the Burnham on Crouch Lifeboat station “Top Box” award in a presentation on 7th January.

Volunteers and officers of the Lifeboat Station gave Diane a plaque in recognition of donations from patrons of £724.16 in 2015. Diane said, “Since I started here I have supported the lifeboat. I feel it helps to make you part of the community.” The award was made by Walter Jenkins, who added, “

During the course of 2015 the generosity of the residents of Burnham and Southminster has contributed £2,800.26 to lifeboat funds. This has directly benefited our ability to save lives at sea. The two Burnham lifeboats were launched 45 times last year and assisted 78 people in difficulties. There are 70 Royal National Lifeboat Institution collecting boxes in pubs and shops in this area and each one makes it possible for us to be at the ready. The local volunteers and officers of the RNLI would like to thank the businesses which have allowed us to leave a box on their premises and they can be sure it is directly helping to save lives”.
