Atlantic 85 at speed

On Saturday 13th May, at 14:00, Burnham on Crouch RNLI Lifeboat launched in response to a call from South Woodham Ferrers Coastguard to attend a 20 foot motor boat broken down near Upriver YC with one person on board. No sooner had this been attended to than the Atlantic 85 was called to attend a sailing yacht which had a rope caught in its propeller. Later than night, a small motor boat was reported lost. the Atlantic 85 was launched once more and the vessel was safely escorted to a berth.

“At this time of year we often see a rise in launches”, explained David Nicholls, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager for Burnham on Crouch Lifeboat Station. “Our volunteer crew knows this and we operate a watch system to make sure we spread the load.”

On Saturday 8th July there is a child friendly Open Day from 11:00 to 16:00 at Burnham on Crouch Lifeboat Station at Burnham Yacht Harbour, where members of the public can get to know more about the work of their local lifeboat, while on Monday 29th May there will be a Yellow Welly Relay to raise funds for the RNLI’s annual May Day campaign.
